POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Maine Rivers Executive Director

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Executive Director will lead this growing and increasingly influential organization as it emerges as an effective guardian of Maine’s rivers and will be responsible for all aspects of its operation. The ED will be the primary voice articulating Maine Rivers’ vision, mission and programs to the public, other organizations, the legislature and agencies, and the media.

Program: With the board, design and manage programs to protect, restore and enhance Maine’s river systems and to strengthen the statewide coalition of grassroots river organizations. (Current programs include: strengthening rules governing water withdrawals, improving water quality regulation, river classification, and the Androscoggin River initiative);

Development: Work with the board to develop and lead an active fundraising program, including a major donor campaign, special events, grant research and grant writing;

Advocacy: Build public support for protection of Maine’s rivers and to ensure effective long- term state legislative and regulatory policies;

Outreach, Membership and Communications: Continue and expand efforts to build membership, recruit and support volunteers, and collaborate with other organizations to play a major leadership role in the protection of Maine’s rivers;

Administration: Manage the organization’s financial and administrative work and ensure compliance with government regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Proven success raising funds from a variety of sources;
Understanding of environmental issues in the state of Maine;
Familiarity with legislative and agency processes;
Excellent communication skills; both oral and written;
Computer and Internet literacy;
Working knowledge of the administrative needs of a small but growing nonprofit;
Minimum of a bachelor's degree and five years of work experience.

DETAILS: Compensation and benefits are competitive. Start date is targeted for June, 2006. We will begin reviewing applications as of May 12. Applicants should submit a current resume, a writing sample and a statement explaining how their qualifications and experience have prepared them to lead Maine Rivers as it continues to grow.
